An Insider's Perpective - Insights on the Fire's season so far

by Aaron Bowling

The West Coast Fire are in their second season and they have a junior team which is entering it's first year this season.  The Fire seniors are led by WA Raider Daniel E, Aaron B, Queensland State Player Adam S, Dwayne H, and Will J.  The defence looks to be much improved this season not allowing more than 50 points until they faced the Vipers and gave up 90 points in week 4.  The Fire offence had a really productive game against the Saints, moving the ball most of the day and helping the defence hold the Saints to only 44 points.

Week 2 the Fire faced the Blitz and gave the Blitz a good game with only 1 offensive turnover and they held the blitz to 50 points (just a scope last year the Fire forfiet to the Blitz in the first half with a score of 44-0).  Week 1 the battle for the West Coast Cup was a hard fought battle won by the Wolverines 28-0 as the Fire offence couldn't get off the ground and help out the strong defencive effort.  Unfortunatley with the small team that they already have the Fire have been hit hard by injuries this season, they lost their starting center Waylan H in week 1, defensive captain and 2010 Gridiron West South All-star team defensive end Dwayne H in week 1, a big valuable linemen in Rod in the 2nd game, and now they have lost Adam S the big queensland import and defensive captain in week 4 v. Vipers with a broken wrist.

If the Fire can overcome injuries they may be able to string together some really good games this season and who knows they may pull out their very first win in club history.  Coaches Danny B and Joe R have certainly had a hand in turning this club around from first year woes and they hope to lead this team into a very bright future.
