4th of July football is on again!

****UPDATE: Training session for all interested players on Sat 26th June, 2pm at Treggoning. Anyone that can't attend the session must contact Gert Boogerd on 0419 198 532 if they wish to play.****

Once again Gridironwest has been invited by the American Women's Club to showcase the game we all love at their annual 4th of July fair. Last year's event was a great success with players from throughout the league turning up to play, ref or just enjoy the doughnuts! This year we hope for a similarly great turnout and with the teams being a little more organised this year the football should be even better.

In addition to football you can enjoy the delights of American hot dogs, beer, softdrinks, Krispy Kreme donuts (though get in quick, they go fast!), American sports, entertainment, American products (home made jams etc), games and more. All proceeds raised are going to the Royal Flying Doctors Service and ENTRY IS FREE!

The USA FAIR is being held on Sunday, 4th of July from 11am - 3pm, at the Kardinya Community Hall, Morris Buzzacott Reserve.
Prescott Road, Kardinya (take South St exit from the Kwinana Freeway, 9 mins from Perth CBD).

New Flag Football Competition!

West Coast Wolverines start GW's first official Flag Football Competition.

A brain child of WA Raiders Head Coach, Craig Wilson, the WC Wolverines have taken the lead with starting a mixed/open flag football competition starting in May.

The Wolverines anticipate that flag football will become a year round fixture at the club, leading to increased club membership and Senior/Junior players.

Increased membership being the No. 1 priority of the Wolverines this pre-season as they build towards entering the clubs first Senior team into the GW 2010 competition.

Having had a Junior team in GW for the past 5 seasons, the Wolverines look forward to welcoming some of their past Juniors as well as new recruits back into the senior team.

Former NFL Europe Coach to lead Australia's campaign for 2011 World Cup

Gridiron Australia has appointed former NFL Europe Coach John Leijten as Head Coach of its snr national team for its campaign to compete in 2011 IFAF World Cup to be held in Austria.

Leijten, who was born in Australia but raised in The Netherlands, has been successful coaching in Europe, winning Dutch, German and European Championships. In the NFL Europe, his team, the Amsterdam Admirals appeared in 2 consecutive World Bowl Championships games winning it in 2005.

“I am very excited to be working with the all Australian players so that we can build the strongest Australian team ever. There is lots of hard work to do and not much time to do it in but I am confident that we can show great improvement once our plans are implemented”

Gridiron Australia is pleased to have someone of John's ability and experience to be able to lead our snr team and prepare it for the World Cup and with the possibility of having some of our US based college players being available to be part of the team, it will give John the opportunity to mould and form a competitive team and one to be respected Chairman Michael Ryan said.

John will hit the ground running, beginning with the selection of his coaching staff and then evaluating the talent that will be on show at the Gridiron Australia senior national championships being held in Melbourne April 10-16 this year.

“It is my plan to build an Australia wide network of people to help build a strong national program. We will find scouts, coaches, trainers, athletic coaches etc. All of which are needed to build a successful program”

WA Raiders finish third in 2010 National Championships.

The 50 player strong 2010 Senior Raiders team travelled to Melbourne with one goal in this years Gridion Australia National Championship....to win it all!

Gridironwest 2009/10 Senior Championship

Rockingham Vipers vs Perth Blitz

The 2009/10 season ended much like the 2008/09 season. The league leading Vipers again emerged victorious from a tough semi-final game against the Broncos, while the 3rd placed Blitz again defeated the higher ranked Steelers.

Last years championship saw the Vipers get out to an early lead but the Blitz were able to get themselves back into the game in the second half. The scores went back and forth but the Blitz came up short and the Vipers earned their fourth championship.
